I Created September

The third and monumental CD is one of ChipperDemon's most anticipated productions yet. While Alcohol August received mixed reviews ranging from unbeatable (for a junior compilation that is daunting) to no words out of kindness, I Created September certainly has something to prove. Featuring songs ranging from the artists Frank Black, Flight of the Conchords and the blog hot M.I.A. and Justice there is a lot to listen to.

The third compilation, not only proving the credibility of the Fourth Wednesday Series, has two new features. This month's CD includes two bonus tracks (a concept ChipperDemon finally accepted) and will feature Jubilant Pillager's partner in the ChipperDemon efforts, Smiling Satanist's cover art.

3. The Boys (Calvin Harris Remix) - Dragonette (Take It Like A Man - July 2nd 2007) We're making fun of the guy that wrote ChipperDemon's favorite album this month and inspired the title of this month's compilation "The Boys (Calvin Harris Remix)" has been voted as a favorite by 1 user.

4. Foundations - Kate Nash (Made of Bricks - August 13th 2007) Kind of a messed up song but that melody just gets ya "Foundations" has been voted as a favorite by 1 user.

5. Icky Thump - The White Stripes (Icky Thump - June 19th 2007) "You can't be a pimp and a prostitute too"? watch me

6. Cancel on Me - Bombay Bicycle Club (The Boy I Used to Be - March 30th 2007) Don't ever even consider canceling on ChipperDemon

8. A Good God - Cloud Cult (The Meaning of 8 - April 10th 2007) If I could build a cult around clouds I probably would "A Good God" has been voted as a favorite by 1 user.

9. Merry Happy - Kate Nash (Made of Bricks - August 13th 2007) Yes, you are sensing another repeat artist on another CD compilation. we give props

10. Boy with a Coin - Iron & Wine (The Shepard's Dog - September 25th 2007) Pleasantly surprised by the new album

11. Le Loup (Fear Not) - Le Loup (The Throne of the Third Heaven... - September 11th 2007) One of the weaker songs of the compilation but still good

12. Lake Michigan - Rogue Wave (Asleep at Heaven's Gate - September 18th 2007) Another weak one but definitely enjoyable

13. DVNO - Justice (Justice - July 10th 2007) Justice has been talked about to an unfathomable degree among the "blogosphere" but most of the songs have great starts while the rest of the song fails or great choruses and the rest of the song fails. This is the first song that feels worthy of repeating over and over and doing a bit of a boogie.

14. Paper Planes - M.I.A. (Kala - August 21st 2007) Much like Justice, M.I.A. has been getting a lot of attention yet most songs fail in some area. Paper planes, however, breaks that occurrence and just makes you stare with a confused look on your face while still bobbing you head. Don't ask what the lyrics are, something about prepaid wireless?

15. Speak to Me Bones - Land of Talk (Applause Cheer Boo Hiss - March 20th 2007) Hell's yeah. Stop hitting on girls.

16. You Think We Suck - Ape Fight (Ape Fight, Ape Fight - February 6th 2006) Had to be included after watching the film "Accepted."

"1. The Humans Are Dead - The Flight of the Conchords Shameful, eyes-uncomfortably-shifted-right-hangdog-expression admission: I've never actually watched an episode of 'The Flight of the Conchords'. I know...! Clever lyrics, I'm digging the acoustic '70s-boogie that closes out the song, and obviously "motherboardfuckingsystems" scores an extra bonus point or two. The actual music for most of the track really isn't all that hooky, tho'. 2. Acceptable in the 80s - Calvin Harris Cacklingly awesome synths! That sort of squealing, squawking sound is what made me shell out for...yikes, two Moogs now. (My Little Phatty Stage II ships on 4/16!) Awesome segue from the disco-fried tailend of "The Humans Are Dead" to this. 3. The Boys (Calvin Harris Remix) - Dragonette Inhumanly infectious. Layers of bleating synthesizers, rapid-fire hi-hat, and hypercaffeinated female vox are a pretty easy way to win me over. 4. Foundations - Kate Nash Also ridiculously catchy and danceable with that kind of frantically attacked acoustic guitar, and the fanged lyrics are pretty brilliant too. 5. Icky Thump - The White Stripes As much as I love the chugging guitar and that killer '70s-blues-rock riff, the snarling, snaking organ is what really sells "Icky Thump" for me. Wow. I'd completely forgotten about this song. 6. Cancel on Me - Bombay Bicycle Club For some reason, this really struck me as having a mid-'90s college radio flavor to it, although those jangly guitars and fuzz-rock breakdowns are pretty timeless. I love the subtle texture that the breathy backing "ooooh"s add, and the tremelo in the lead vox really make "Cancel On Me" stand out more than it would have otherwise. 7. You Can't Break a Heart and Have It - Black Francis The punk-flavored intensity and escalatingly urgent call-and-response vocals would make this a hell of a lot of fun to catch live. 8. A Good God - Cloud Cult I really love it when a melody is ridiculously catchy yet off-kilter enough that it zips and zags around the path I'd have expected it to take. I don't always want to be able to pin down a pop song. Really clever instrumentation -- especially those harpsichord-like strings! -- and awesomely distinctive vocals make for my favorite song on this CD. The CD player in my office computer doesn't seem to be all that keen on it, though, keeling over and dying for a stretch around halfway through. 9. Merry Happy - Kate Nash After the complete and utter destruction of Dresden by Allied bombers from the last couple of songs, "Merry Happy" yanks the steering wheel in a different direction with the sort of bouncy, plinking piano keys and chipper vocals that you'd hope to hear in a song with this title. I'm normally not that keen on really long outros like this, but it really works here. Nice to hear a song extoll the joys of being alone rather than pin happiness on someone else. 10. Boy with a Coin - Iron & Wine Not really my thing so much, but this is kind of an interesting mix of a really bright, ethereal sound with a resounding low-end. The interplay between the psychedelic guitar and the almost hypnotic acoustic that rounds out "Boy with a Coin" did grab my attention, though. 11. Le Loup (Fear Not) - Le Loup I don't dislike this track, but honestly, during both listens, I eventually forgot this was even playing. Prone to slinking into the background, it's fine but forgettable. 12. Lake Michigan - Rogue Wave I've never been overly fond of Rogue Wave -- at least judging by their singles I've heard, they've struck me as Sad Bastard Music in the "High Fidelity" sense -- but this is my favorite of their songs I've heard. There's nothing exceptionally distinctive about "Lake Michigan" (if you'd have told me it was a Shins B-side, I wouldn't have argued), but that's okay. Why the squeaky door at the very end of the song keeps grabbing my attention, I have no idea. 13. DVNO - Justice That slap bass is genius, setting it apart from a track that otherwise hits me as kind of a good-but-not-great Daft Punk knockoff. 14. Paper Planes - M.I.A. My kneejerk reaction is that this is kind of bland, but then I hear a chorus straight out of Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie" peppered with gunshots and ringing cash registers, and my footing's upended. 15. Speak to Me Bones - Land of Talk Even my second time through, I could only make out about half of the lyrics in the verses, but that's alright. Melodically shouted female vocals are on the short list of things that are certain to win me over. 16. You Think We Suck - Ape Fight For some reason, I saw the name and thought of The Guano Apes, and they sound not all even a little bit like this. 17. BONUS TRACK - Shit Song - Kate Nash That tinny drum machine that kicks off the track is awesome. It's like a Human League song circa '82 flipping off the PMRC. 18. BONUS TRACK - Icky Thump (Led Zeppelin Remix) - DJ Zebra Ha. "Whole Lotta Love" just tossed in there for the hell of it. 19.
